Final Music Video

Production Log: Week 9 (Deadline week)

What have you contributed this week?
This week we are almost near our deadline, last week we had made sure all the footage was one and at a good level ready for Tuesday 18th March. After staying back in school we had come to the conclusion that we were on target. We had changed all the things needed for the music video from the advice we were given from our teachers. I was also almost done with the Music Video evaluation.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

We are on track and are really happy with how well we have worked together, like said in the previous production log there has been no stress for quick changes. The job roles were kept in tact and we had really worked well within our roles. When moving on to our evaluation the work had then begun more independent as we had to evaluate our work ourselves.

Were there any problems?

There were no problems faces this week. Our music video was completed to a really good standard and felt that we were able to submit a good piece of work that enable us top marks. There were no problems within the evaluation stage as i felt i had enough to say and resources to look at

How did you/will you overcome them?
There were no problems to overcome or solve this week.

What are the plans for the following week?

The evaluation will be completed and them I will be aiming to get

this evaluation completed so i can look back at previous blog posts and change anything if needed.

Production log: Week 8

What have you contributed this week?
This week we were fast approaching our deadline, we had to ensure that all footage was done and all editing was up to scratch. We had to make sure everything was at a good level ready for Tuesday 18th March. When Tuesday had come around we wanted to stay in school and go every little bit of detail to make sure we were hitting all our targets to make it look like a really good music video. Once fully edited we had shown both teachers to see what their opinion was and if we needed to make any changes. We were told to tweak a few minor things in our music video which was changed in about half an hour. Once changed we had uploaded our music video to YouTube. On Wednesday 19th we had begun the evaluation stage for the music video.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

By completing our music video we have successfully been on track with our production schedule, we were in no panic to fit in any more shooting or editing. We both stuck to our jobs well as I directed the way i felt would look good in our music video in the editing and Prinul had done most of the editing as he was more advanced in that field.

Were there any problems?

Production Log: Week 7

What have you contributed to this week?

This week me and my partner continued on with editing. We had managed to get the intro, first verse and chorus edited and finalised. We had realised how difficult it would be to peice together shots in a totally new programme to us and found ourselves looking at a lot of You Tube tutorials. We also did some extra filming of the shots that we needed to do in school were i was involved in on my own during lesson time as our cast had their own lessons to attend too.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project?

I am pleased to say that we are on track and on target. We are at a good place at this moment during the task. Although we have gone through some glitches due to the circumstance of our cast not being able to turn up, but we are still on target and are very happy with our upcoming shots. The job roles have been split between both myself and Prinul and we have really worked together and gelled as a team

Were there any problems?

There was the issue of the introduction of our piece. In previous weeks we had wanted there to be a beginning introduction before the song begins. The reason for this would be because we wanted to give the audience the foundations of the music video so it will make the production much more clarified. We thought we had enough footage for this beginning sequence but when it came to the editing of the music video, myself and Prinul had noticed that it wasn't flowing nicely and looked way to jumpy. We instantly wanted to change this as it wasn't a good start to the music video and it gives a bad idea to the audience to what the rest of it may look like.

How did you/will you overcome them?

We initially thought that the introduction would look better if we had added more effects and slowed down individual clips. When doing so we realised it looked awful and too over done. We then said we would re shoot the clips and make sure there was not a lack of match on action so it will flow much nicer. But with the deadline slowly approaching we decided to totally scrap the introduction, this didn't ruin the song at all as the song wouldn't begin till after the introduction.

What are the plans for the following week?

We are going to shoot some extra footage on the chorus to change up the shots and add more close ups. We will also continue the editing process and work toward fridays deadline.

Production Log: Week 6

What have you contributed to this week?

Final Cut Express.
We are currently on track with our production schedule and are pleased to know that we are moving at a good pace due to our tight time frame. Prinul and I were excited to begin the editing stage and watch the production fall into place, it felt rewarding as we could see our hard efforts on the screen. We both shared job roles and gave in our own input towards what we liked in the editing stage. We had experimented with a lot of tools in this programme such as the Cross-Dissolve and Fades. By watching music videos we knew that the effects make or break the video so we wanted to use as many as possibly effectively without over working the music video.
This week we had imported all our footage onto the software; Final Cut Express. This simple task took a fair bit of time as we had quite a lot of footage to sort through. By sorting through the footage we had picked out the shots, matching them with our shooting script, and had imported it into the scratch disk. We had watched a few YouTube tutorials to help us get an idea of the tools that were on offer in Final Cut Express. We then began to edit our Music video.

How does this fit with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project?

Were there any problems?

There was a problem of lighting in some of our footage, the camera movement and angling was perfect but the visuals of the image was far too dark which disabled us from seeing vital facial expressions. We decided that it was a must that we re shot this particular footage. There was also some footage we wanted to re shoot in the school studio as we felt with such a passionate song we wanted Jasmine to lip sync much better to make it more believable to the audience.

How did you/will you overcome them?

To solve this problem we had to re shoot which a problem as we were on schedule and were able to fit in a time to do the footage. We are glad we did as it looks much better than it did before. We ensured that the lighting was much brighter naturally which enabled the camera to pick up on facial expressions

What are the plans for the following week?

The following week will consist of re shooting the darker shots and school studio shots. We will also be continuing on with the editing towards our final Music Video.

Production Log: Week 5 (Half Term)

What have you contributed this week?

This was the week of Half Term, and also the week we wanted to get majority of our filming done! Before this week had started we had planned out the specific days myself and Prinul had to film, along with our cast members. As me and Prinul both have part time jobs we weren't able to film on certain days however we pulled through and managed to get enough filming done to complete our project. Unfortunately one of our locations did not allow access to film on their premises which had then forced myself and Prinul to use a good sense of initiative into thinking where it could be more practical to film. This lead on to the decision of filming in and around the area of Prinul's home.

How does this fit in with the productions schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

Although we had set specific days of filming we had come to the issue of our cast members not being able to make it as they had things going on during Half Term, this could of become a major problem if their was a lack of communication, however everyone stayed in contact which enabled us to film on another day. The job roles were mixed like written in previous posts and their was a lot of ideas and creativity flowing when filming shots to bring our own imagination and flair to the footage.

Were there any problems?

There was the issue of our cast cancelling on the days we wanted to film which had slowed our process down slightly.

How did you/will you overcome them?

Although our cast are friends of mine and Prinul we had to become more stricter and tell them that we need them in this day at this time. We did this because it would be a disaster to go through Half Term without any footage to bring back to class. They were very understanding and came to film with us. They were great to film with as they followed direction and gave opinions on our ideas.

What are your plans for the following week?

New Term!
In in this part of our project we will begin the editing stage by using the software Final Cut Express, we hope to have the correct footage with the right lighting and that it looks professional. Although we hope our shots will come out great which will help us avoid any re shoo
ting, this will be the best time to re shoot if we need to desperately as our deadline for the project is on the 13th March 2014.
