Analysing my song

Lyrics to Kim King – Secrets

Call me on the phone late last night
Ask me what doing, where I’m going
can I come see you? Do you have the time to chill?
So I say yes, I can come meet you anywhere
anything you wanna do I don’t care
you know it’s nothing to me to fulfill your fantasy

You tell me how I’m your secret, nobody can tell
I’m your secret nobody will know I’m your secret
and he likes it and I love it and I know for sure I’m a secret
just being here, I’m a secret as long as we here he a secret
he’s my secret I’m his secret I love being a secret baby

Paparazzi always snapping got some columnist be rapping
bout the things I be doing, where I’m going who I’m screwing
So we meet at the Bellagio, need a key to the top floor
go down to the best door if I’m not there he waits for me so patiently
he’s so great to beee

You tell me how I’m your secret, nobody can tell
I’m your secret nobody will know I’m your secret
and he likes it and I love it and I know for sure I’m a secret
just being here, I’m a secret as long as we here he a secret
he’s my secret I’m his secret I love being a secret baby

When it’s me and you and were all alone
I can let my hair down take my shoes off
let me massage my soul and my love is never too much for him to handle
so I hold on, let go , the best care secrettttssss

You tell me how I’m your secret, nobody can tell
I’m your secret nobody will know I’m your secret
and he likes it and I love it and I know for sure I’m a secret
just being here, I’m a secret as long as we here he a secret
he’s my secret I’m his secret I love being a secret baby (x2)

Lyric Analysis

Target Audience.

Age: 18-30
Gender: Mainly female.
Interests: music, RnB, Soul, poetry, art.
Location: United Kingdom/America
Ethnicity: Black/White/Asian general backgrounds.

The song has a specific audience as the song can communicate and connect to the audience as they can link the song from their own personal lives, this specific audience is appealed to more females within the 18-30 age bracket. This makes the likability of the song much greater as the listeners can understand and come to a mutual emotion on how the artist is feeling.

Analysing the lyrics.

The artist is singing about how she is having a secret relationship with her lover. Although being someones secret isn't the most ideal setting it seems that she gets a buzz and a thrill for being his secret as she says "and he likes it and I love it and I know for sure I’m a secret". Although she is this mans secret, there is no evidence that he has another relationship on the side as she says "I’m not there he waits for me so patiently", this shows that they are actually in love and that they enjoy being together. The chorus also proves that she enjoys being a mystery as she says "I love being a secret baby". The song however can be quite empowering to women as they are seen as something inferior to men which can really question many female listeners to why the song is written in this particular way. In the bridge of the song she says how the man makes the way she feels which is what many female listeners can relate too, with having someone that can let her hair down and relax as she says "I can let my hair down take my shoes off". This makes the listener feel good as it is a nice feeling to have when thinking about a significant other.

Analysing the music

The artist eases her way into the chorus of the song with a narrative building up in the beginning which is typical from the RnB/Soul genre. My artists influence, Keyisha Cole also does this. It is clear that Kim King wanted to grasp the same concept as one of the singers that she looks up too. Keyisha Cole also appeals to a female audience within the age range of 18-30 year olds.

Analysing the tempo

The tempo of the song is soothing, relaxing and slow which is what the artist kim king was looking for. Not only does is the song relaxing and slow, it also excites the audience as it has some fast and memorable moments in the chorus

How would you use the song in a music video

The music video I would create to go along with the song I have chosen would have a mixture of some performance, narrative and literal elements. The song begins with the artist on the phone to her significant other, I would start with a split screening to show them in two different locations but both on the phone to eachother. The female artist would be lip syncing the song whilst on the phone to him to make it seem like a conversation when really she is actually singing to him. It would then actually cut to both lovers meeting eachother outside the Bellagio hotel which is actually located in Nevada, Las Vegas. At this point I would want to show this hotel by using green screen as it would be impossible to replicate the hotel in my current location. I would also want a photo shoot to be present as she says the line "Paparazzi always snappin", this will bring the literal style to my music video as there will actually be cameras and photographers in this actual moment in the video.
