Artist Identity

This is my chosen artist, Kim King.
The artist I have chosen to base my music video on is called Kim King, I am still waiting for a response from an email I had sent a week ago. She is about 26 years old and is based in Philadelphia, USA. Kim King is a RnB/Pop artist, from Philadelphia so many of her influences are also from Philadelphia too, such as; Jill Scott, Jasmine Sullivan and Will Smith. Kim King had started to sing Gospel music at the age of 11 and is also became a young mum at the age of 21. Kim King had originally been in a group called "Marq", from being a part of this group, made her really grow a back bone to move on forward and strive for bigger and better things. Kim K is currently still in school studying criminal justice, she did this to have a plan B option if anything goes wrong in her career.

Clothing I would want my artist to wear.

Outfit idea 1:
Leather Leggings
Bright coloured peplum tops

Gold necklace

Black Heels

Outfit idea 2:
Converse

Leather Jacket

Dark Skinny Jeans
Black and white Shirt/Top

I have chosen these specific clothing ideas and accessories for what I would want my artists to wear when making my music video. Kim Kings song is very Rnb and pop and i wanted the clothing i have chosen to represent this genre. I wanted to bring that style of music out with her clothing and what i would imagine what the artist would wear in the song. I chose two different outfit changes to show different themes within the music video. Theme 1 would be someone quite sexy but sophisticated. It would be something that would turn heads but not as a source of voyeurism. With the leather leggings bringing some kind of sex appeal when coming to the music video, with a peplum top to bring out the outfit with simple accessories such as the gold chain. Outfit 2 would be more casual and laid back as i want two different times of day to be approached when filming the video. Although it is casual it is still stylish and fits in with the Pop side to my artist genre. When choosing outfits i had to be realistic because i had to think of the clothing i had to offer when filming. This would be the best thing to do as when it comes to actually producing my piece there will be no problems or hassle buying and finding outfits.

Typography I would want my artist to use.

This is the type of typography I would want my artist logo to be like, ignore what the words say I chose these images specifically for the typography. I came to the decision to use these specific images as they are influenced by the album covers that Kim King has been influenced in such as Keyisha Cole's album A Different me. I thought it would suit well to create a logo with this inspiration as Keyisha Cole is Kim Kings inspiration. When creating the typography I would want it to all be in black, thus making it look simple which is what I am trying to get across to the audience.

Mise-en-scene i would use in the music video

Inside a car.

Street/Road

Park

Bedroom

Photo shoot

I have chosen these for mise-en-scene because it is what would imagine when you hear the song I have chosen. The scenery connote what the lyrics are, i would want a literal approach when filming my music video. For example the chosen location of the photo shoot is literal because there is a line in the song that says "Paparazzi always snapping" at this point in the song I would want someone literally taking a photo of my artist. They are all easily accessible and realistic settings and locations which is a bonus when filming my music video.

Colours I would use for my artists identity

These are the chosen colours I would use for my artists identity as they are bright and vibrant. The purple and pinks bring out the personality of the chosen artist as it sets quite a bubbly and feisty mood, which is what her music is. The red shows the fire in her music which contributes to her Gospel background bringing soul and passion. I feel the audience will like the colours chosen for the music video as they are eye catching and exciting. The colours mesh well with the genre of the music too.

Imagery which their song evokes in my mind:

"Take my shoes off"

"I can let my hair down"

"So we meet at the Bellagio"
"Papparazzi always snappin"

"Fulfill his fantasy"
"I love being his secret baby"
"Need a key to the top floor"
Relaxing tone to the song.
Girl on the phone in the beginning of the song.
When listening to my chosen song there are certain images that come to mind. The images above with the quotation marks are the lyrics in the song which give quite a literal meaning to them. The images i had picked out were the ones that came to my mind instantly when listening to the song, making Kim Kings song much more memorable. There is quite a soothing melody to the song which makes it more calming which is why i chose to put a picture up of someone relaxing on a beach. The image of the girl on the phone shows what I envision when opening the song as the song itself begins with a phone call with her lover. Another literal image would be the hotel Bellagio, i would want to use this image in my music video by using green screen, this is because there is no way I will be able to film in Vegas and I would want a particular shot of the two people meeting in front of the hotel.

The people I would want to star in my music video will be Simran Nagra and Azhar Jamal. I have decided to chose these two to be the focus of my piece as they are a couple in real life. This comes to an advantage for me as they already have that chemistry which is what I need when filming my music video, to fit with the narrative that I want for my music video. They are both not camera shy which is also a benefit to me, with Simran actually doing A level drama she is the best person I could use to fit the role.

Simran and Azhar.
